Common warning signs. Know what to look for.
95% of active shooters demonstrated at least two concerning behaviors before their attack. Common warning signs include:
Withdrawing from friends, family, and activities
Expressing that violence is the way to set things right
Concerning interest
in weapons or
combat training
Sharing, wearing, or writing hate-based materials
Adopting a rigid
“us versus them” mindset with clear “enemies”
Behaving aggressively toward different
groups or beliefs
Unusual secrecy about online activities
Expressing thoughts of harming themselves or others
Concerning interest with violent content or mass shooters
